Traveling to Turkey means; traveling to thousands of years of history, exploring the place where civilizations meet and making a journey in time! On this travel guide/post, we will focus on informing you about; the best travel destinations of Turkey, and the best Turkey itinerary for 7 days!
GETTING TO TURKEY!
If you are Traveling to Turkey, most probably your inbound and outbound flights will be from/to Istanbul! Istanbul New Airport is one of Europe’s busiest, largest, and most central airports! It is also a destination where you can find the most affordable flights compared to other European countries due to its central location in Europe!
A quick reminder for you; Istanbul New Airport is not the only Airport in Istanbul. There are 2 Airports; Istanbul New Airport(IST) and Sabiha Gökcen Airport (SAW). Although Sabiha Gökcen Airport is used for more domestic flights, there are also some international flights. On this hand, we highly recommend you to check flight prices for both Airports!
WHERE TO VISIT IN TURKEY?
7 Days is pretty enough to visit the highlights of Turkey. However, your schedule would be a little tight! The recommended highlights are as below;
1- Istanbul
Istanbul is the heart of Turkey in terms of art, history, and culture! Even 7 days on its own is not enough to discover all of Istanbul! However, 1 or 2 days enough to visit and explore the highlights of Istanbul.
If you have a question on your mind like; where to visit in Istanbul, what are the highlights? No worry at all! Here is the list of highlights that you should visit in Istanbul!
- Hagia Sophia Museum,
- Blue Mosque or called Sultanahmet Camii,
- Topkapi Palace and Museum,
- Basilica Cistern,
- Grand Bazaar,
- Galata Bridge,
- Bosphorus Cruise
These all places located in the Sultanahmet Street of Istanbul, at a very close distance to each other. So, logistics will not be a serious problem while going from one to another.

2- Cappadocia
During your days in Turkey, one of the most striking destinations that you may explore is definitely Cappadocia and its fairy chimneys! In addition, it is the place where the Hot Air Balloon Flights operated! To get to Cappadocia, you can take a flight from Istanbul. This is the easiest way of reaching Cappadocia. Again, there are 2 airports in Cappadocia; Kayseri Airport (ASR), and Nevsehir Airport (NAV).
We do recommend picking a morning flight around 6 – 7 am which arrives in Cappadocia around 8 – 8:30. So, you can use your day more efficiently! 2 full days to explore Cappadocia are pretty enough! And, here is the list of; what to do in Cappadocia, and where to visit in Cappadocia?
- Hot Air Balloon Flights,
- Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu Underground Cities,
- Goreme Open-Air Museum,
- Rose Valley,
- Devrent Valley,
- Cavusin Castle,
- Whirling Dervishes Ceremony/Sufi Dances
- Turkish Night Show and Dinner
Travel Tip: We do recommend picking your Hot Air Balloon Tour on your first morning in Cappadocia. In this way, if your balloon flight is canceled due to the bad weather, you may have another chance to do it on your second morning.

The largest and richest open-air museum that you may see in Turkey is the Ephesus Ancient City! It was the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire/Byzantium and the trade center for the Eastern civilizations. The traces of the history in this place dated back to 5 thousand years ago; to the Ancient Greek time!
Also, it is one of the seven churches of the revelation which is mentioned in the bible! The list of places you should explore in and around Ephesus is as below;
- Library of Celsus,
- Amphi Theatre of Ephesus,
- House of Virgin Mary,
- Basilica of St. John,
- Temple of Artemis,
- Sirince Greek Village
Travel Tip: Since the Ephesus Ancient City is a very historical place, we do highly recommend visiting it with a tour guide! We can simply say that it is more and more meaningful with a local tour guide who points you the details. There are everyday guaranteed departures small-group or private day trips from Kusadasi and Selcuk Towns which you can join!
