HEROON
It is a cult place named Heroon, which consists of a prayer room and a single courtyard built in the name of the Pergamon kings who were deified in the Hellenistic period. It is thought that it was built during the time of King Attalos-I and that Attalos-I, Eumenes-II, one of the first kings of Pergamon, was worshiped here. Therefore, the names Attaleion and Eumeneion were also given to Heroon.
It is one of the buildings that changed during Roman time. In particular, the gray andesite used in Hellenistic era structures in the acropolis was removed from the slopes of the mountain on which the acropolis is located. In the Roman period, marble, the most important construction material of Roman architecture, was used abundantly in addition to andesite.
