Temple of Trajan in Pergamon!

TEMPLE OF TRAJAN IN PERGAMON CITY!

One of the most magnificent buildings of the Roman period in Pergamon was built in honor of Emperor Trajan. It is known that the Temple of Trajan was built on a Hellenistic structure.

And, it was built by Emperor Hadrian, who succeeded the great emperor of the Romans, Trajan, after his death and ruled between 117-138. It was surrounded by 6 columns at the front and back and 9 at the sides. It is in the order of Corinthian architecture and is almost entirely built of marble, unlike the Hellenistic structures made of andesite stone that we have seen before.

During the excavations in the Temple of Trajan, the heads of two huge statues of both emperors who had the temple built and worshiped, which are exhibited today in the Pergamon Museum Berlin, were unearthed. It is thought that Hadrian, like Trajan, was also worshiped in this temple.
